Henley Royal Regatta

The 2011 regatta was hugely successful as an event and attracted a large number of crews including many from abroad - presumably some in preparation for the Olympic Games in 2012. The weather was near perfect, dry and warm throughout, and the lack of stream plus tail wind meant that many records tumbled. Further information by clicking Henley Royal Regatta.

I tend not to cover the racing photographically but in 2011 I was asked to cover a rather special event, which took place on the Friday of the regatta. This was a row-over the course by a Kingston Four to mark both the club's success at Henley and to remember crew member Andy Holmes, who sadly died in 2010. Andy's place in the crew was taken by his pairs' partner Sir Steve Redgrave. Andy's family followed the row over in the umpire's launch. After the row a presentation was made to Richard Ayling for his services to Kingston Rowing Club and GB crews over many years.
